Yes, it has indeed been a long, hot summer, and aren’t we all eagerly awaiting winter this time, like never before? We have some good news to share.
Today, September 23rd, officially marks the end of summer, and according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), there’s a drop in temperatures on the horizon. Next week, parts of the UAE can expect cooler and fresher winds, with temperatures dipping as low as 23ºC.
At the same time, in a post published on X, formerly known as Twitter, the Sharjah Planetarium officially declared the commencement of the autumn equinox on September 23, 2023. This is when the sun shines directly on the equator, and both the northern and southern hemispheres receive the same amount of sunlight, signaling the official start of autumn.
Which means, during the weekend, we can anticipate mostly cloudy conditions and a rise in humidity during the night. Light to moderate cooler winds will prevail, bringing temperatures down to 29ºC in Abu Dhabi on Saturday and 26ºC in Dubai on Sunday. Daytime highs are expected to reach 42ºC.
The transition from summer to winter in the UAE is signified by the appearance of the Suhail star, which occurred on August 24th.
Temperatures aren’t anticipated to undergo an immediate drop following the star’s spotting. Instead, a gradual transition occurs over the 100-day period following the sighting, during which temperatures slowly begin to change.
