Video footage
The video footage shows a fire that broke out on an Air India Express flight at Muscat airport at 11.33am (local time), which led to passengers being evacuated through emergency slides.
While it was on the taxiway, another aircraft reported observing fumes from one of the engines. However, there was no fire warning indication in the cockpit, the airline said.
As soon as the smoke was detected, the pilot followed all safety procedures. He parked on the runway and activated the onboard engine fire extinguishers, following which the passengers were evacuated from the aircraft.
Alternative arrangements are being made to bring the passengers from Muscat to Kochi, the source said.
Oman’s civil aviation authority said there was “no impact on the safety of the airport, passengers and air traffic”.
“We will investigate the incident and also take appropriate action,” the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) reported.
