The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia announced on Thursday that the crescent moon of Dhu Al Hijjah was sighted in the kingdom that evening, making Friday, June 7 the first day of Dhu Al Hijjah.
According to the Saudi Supreme Court statement, Arafat Day will be observed on Saturday, June 15, and Sunday, June 16 will mark the first day of Eid Al Adha.
Accordingly, Friday, June 7 is the first day of Dhu Al Hijjah, signaling the beginning of this year’s Hajj pilgrimage season. Eid Al Adha will be observed on the 10th day of Dhu Al Hijjah, and Arafat Day, which falls on the ninth day of Dhu Al Hijjah, will be on June 15.
Eid Al Adha 2024 holiday dates
According to the government’s list of public holidays, UAE residents will receive one day off for Arafah Day (Dhu Al Hijjah 9) and three days off for Eid Al Adha (Dhu Al Hijjah 10 to 12).
Eid Al Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, is marked by offering special prayers. Muslims slaughter livestock — usually, a goat, sheep, cow or camel — to commemorate Prophet Ibrahim’s test of faith.
