A Dubai artist has made wonders with his imaginative digital art talent, to visualise how a desert city would look like if it had showered snow or had been covered with lush greenery.
Yes, we are talking about none other than the popular Dubai based contemporary digital artist Jyo John Mulloor. He has been constantly creating headlines with his vivid imaginations and creative thinking in the world of digital art.
The inspiration for Mulloor’s work came from a dream he had one night: Dubai under a blanket of snow. Based on his vintage dream on which he woke up to remember every detail, he transformed the Zabeel Park into a snowy paradise, with the iconic Dubai Frame and the towers of Sheikh Zayed Road in the distance. By recreating his dream into visual reality, Mulloor went viral all over social media and was immediately flooded with praise.
A simple yet effective image, in his opinion, is worth a thousand words.
The digital artist creates his paintings using a technique of layering real photographs. In average, the artist takes about 15 hours to complete each of his projects, which contain about 25 layers of images, that are photographed by Mulloor himself. He uses Adobe Photoshop and a bit of 3D to create them.
“I was doing it outside of working hours, just creating little by little every day. You can say I was a bit obsessed with the project,” Mulloor says.
As a follow up to his artwork depicting Dubai as a snow-covered city and then as a lush green city , he’s now doing the same for Abu Dhabi. Let’s look at each of his stunning series in detail:
#LetItSnowUAE – Abu dhabi
With his latest collection, titled #LetItSnowUAE, the talented artist adds an array of instantly recognizable Abu Dhabi buildings to his existing collection of polarizing renderings of Dubai.
The images showed Qasr Al Watan at the end of a wintery road, with snow heaped on either side of the track, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque blanketed in snow, Ferrari World, Emirates Palace Hotel, Abu Dhabi Corniche area and Louvre Abu Dhabi surrounded by snow-capped trees. It took him five weeks to complete this series, containing 11 phenomenal images.
While the summer temperatures soar in the UAE, he hopes that images of snow will keep the residents cool.
“I know it’s never going to happen. But at least in our heart we can let it snow,” he says.
#LetItSnowDubai
These were the first batch of his project, which featured snow-covered pictures of the newly-opened Museum of the Future, Burj Al Arab, Atlantis, The Palm, Dubai Metro, Downtown Dubai, Dubai Marina and Expo 2020 Dubai.
His caption for the Dubai series read, “Here, I am imagining a series of visuals on how it would look like if we had a Snowy Dubai Winter.”
The artist confronted that he faced challenges while creating images with snow. Despite having traveled to places where it snows, he knew little about the behavior of snow on different surfaces. As a result, he had to take references and also learnt 3D in order to create them.
#LetItBloomDubai – Dubai made Green
Mulloor’s digital project #LetItBloomDubai, shows the emirate’s main attractions, such as Dubai Frame, Burj Al Arab, Dubai skyline, Atlantis, the Palm, packed with lush greenary and it looks absolutely mesmerising. According to Mulloor, the greenery is more of a vision than a landscape that matches with that of – ‘Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan’, a vision shared by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
While the snow in Dubai series came from a dream, #LetItBloomDubai project was led by imaginations of Sheikh Mohammed’s vision into reality.
“My big idea behind #LetItBloomDubai is a pledge to plant,” says Mulloor. “I am planning to do some challenges on social media and anyone can join me.”
He also added that these images are not for sale since he has bigger plans which involves several initiatives such as planting trees in the emirates, filters on Instagram to spread awareness about Global Warming, and much more.
