Have you ever experienced the frustration of sending a WhatsApp message that felt incomplete, lacked context, or didn’t quite convey what you intended? Well, you’re in for some good news now!
WhatsApp has announced an editing feature to allow users to alter messages up to 15 minutes after they have been sent.
The Meta-owned messaging service has started rolling out the editing function globally and it is expected to be accessible to all users in the upcoming weeks.
WhatsApp’s new editing feature
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a post on Facebook, “You can now edit your WhatsApp messages up to 15 minutes after they’re sent.”
According to the platform, to use the new feature:
- Long press on a sent message
- Choose edit on the menu
- After editing any message, an edited label will appear to inform the recipient of the change.
- The changes can only be made within 15 minutes after sending a message.
Messages that have been edited will have an “edited” notification displayed alongside them, although the edit history will not be shown so a user cannot view what the post said before it was altered.
The decision to bring the new feature has been taken to give users more control over their chats.
“For the moments when you make a mistake, or simply change your mind, you can now edit your sent messages,” WhatsApp wrote in the blog.
When Will It Roll Out?
The rollout of this exciting feature has already begun, and it will be gradually available to users globally in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for the update and get ready to experience the convenience and flexibility of editing your sent messages like never before.
Recently, the company had also announced a chat lock feature which allowed users to hide their chats. The feature can be used for personal and group chats.
