Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre (SZGMC) located in Abu Dhabi is ranked as one of the top tourist attractions in the world, according to TripAdvisor ratings in 2022.
TripAdvisor recently launched its ‘Travelers’ Choice Awards for 2022: The Best of the Best Destinations’ , in which SZGMC ranked first in the region and fourth globally in the “Top Attractions” subcategory. The rankings are based on the quality and quantity of traveler reviews and ratings for experiences, tours, activities, and attractions. Additionally, it is ranked ninth globally in the awards’ “Top Cultural & Historical Tours” subcategory.
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is the largest mosque in the UAE and believed to be the third-largest mosque in the world. The mosque extends across 12 hectares of land and is large enough to accommodate over 40,000 worshippers at a time. It features 82 domes, more than 1,000 columns, 24-carat-gold gilded chandeliers and the world’s largest hand-knotted carpet.

The late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan built this mosque to convey the Islamic message of peace, tolerance and diversity all over the world. Not to mention the integrated system of programs, activities, initiatives and experiences provided by Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre related to Islamic culture and knowledge, and serves as a tribute to UAE’s efforts to enhance awareness and promote noble virtues and values within all segments of the society.
The Mosque is visited by seven millions of visitors and worshippers every year. Visitors can start from the “Visitors Center,” which contains exhibition halls, an auditorium, and a library, and end with “Souq Al Jami'” which includes a variety of stores, entertainment areas, and restaurants that cater to their needs and allow them to spend a memorable time at the mosque.
The mosque is located on Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Street, at the gateway to the Abu Dhabi City Island.
Sheikh Zayed Mosque Timings
The mosque is open from 9.00 AM to 10.00 PM, from Saturday to Thursday.
On Friday morning the mosque is closed to visitors (open only for prayers) and reopens to visitors from 4.30 PM to 10.00 PM.
