Attention, shoppers! Beginning January 1, 2025, a new paid parking system will be launched at three popular malls in Dubai, as announced on Wednesday.
Parkin Company, the emirate’s primary operator of public parking, has teamed up with Majid Al Futtaim (MAF) Properties to implement ‘barrierless parking’ at Mall of the Emirates, City Centre Deira, and City Centre Mirdif.
How does it work?
Cameras installed at the entrance and exit points will capture license plates, allowing for automatic tracking of arrival and departure times.
With the introduction of new technology, visitors will no longer have to wait in line at barriers when entering and exiting the malls, eliminating the hassle of reaching for tickets from their vehicles.
As drivers enter the parking area, they will receive cost notifications via SMS or through the official Parkin app, with payment options available through the app or the website.
This system will be implemented for five years under the terms of the contract.
Operation, management and enforcement is expected to be fully implemented by January 1, 2025. The company will be responsible for the installation of cameras, barriers and related technology at the site throughout the contractual period, as well as any future maintenance.
“This strategically important agreement with the region’s leading mall operator complements our existing operations and underscores our ability to deliver growth outside of our core public parking market,” said Mohamed Abdulla Al Ali, CEO of Parkin.
“Our smart systems will reduce congestion and enable smooth traffic flow, enhancing the overall customer experience at some of the busiest and well-known retail locations in Dubai.
Earlier this year, a similar barrier-free parking system was introduced at Dubai Mall, transitioning its parking to a paid service. This system, established by toll operator Salik, charges customers through their Salik accounts.
