Implementation of traffic expansion on exit 55 to Rabat Street

Mirdif to Business Bay Crossing

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully eased traffic congestion near Mirdif City Centre on Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road by expanding the exit road that previously caused major delays.

One of the major changes was the expansion of Exit 55, which now allows for smoother travel onto Al Rebat Street and has improved the flow of traffic significantly.

This 600-meter project involved increasing the traffic overlap distance and adding an additional lane, making it a total of three lanes to accommodate more vehicles.

The surface expansion of Exit 55 is considered an important development project, as it directly contributes to raising the level of traffic safety, increasing the capacity of the exit from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Al Rabat Street from 3,000 vehicles per hour to 4,500 vehicles per hour, an increase of up to 50%, and reducing the travel time for vehicles heading from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Al Rabat Street towards the Business Bay Crossing from 10 minutes to 4 minutes, or by 60%.

This project is a key component of the RTA‘s larger plan to enhance the road network’s capacity and boost traffic safety throughout Dubai, aligning with the city’s rapid urban expansion and increasing population.

This upgrade is a component of the RTA’s comprehensive traffic improvement plan for 2024, which covers 45 different locations across Dubai.

The roads in which traffic movement is to be improved are determined based on 4 main data that are analyzed immediately, namely: traffic studies, control centers, public suggestions, and field observations and monitoring of roads by the Authority’s work teams.
