Apple has finally unveiled the iPhone 14 series that has a lineup of four iPhones – the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Alongside the iPhone 14 series, Apple also launched the new Apple Watch Series 8, the Apple Watch SE, and a new Apple Watch Ultra. In addition, Apple also released the second-generation Apple AirPods Pro, a premium set of TWS earbuds.
The new products were released on Wednesday, at the company’s Far-Out event broadcast live from its headquarters in Cupertino, California. Let’s look at the features of the new product releases.
1. iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus
The all-new iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus features two sizes — 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches, and promises ‘a sophisticated design with impressive camera upgrades and groundbreaking new safety capabilities’.
iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus introduce critical safety capabilities such as Crash Detection and Emergency SOS via satellite, a first in the industry. With a new dual-core accelerometer, crash detection on iPhone can now detect a severe car crash and automatically dial emergency services when users are unconscious or unable to reach their iPhones.
Emergency SOS via satellite technology allows antennas to connect directly to a satellite, enabling messaging with emergency services when a user is outside of the cellular or Wi-Fi network coverage.
Both the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus have been launched with a new version of the Apple A15 Bionic chip that also powers the iPhone 13 series. The new A15 Bionic on the iPhone 14 series comes with 5 GPU cores which offers incredible performance and efficiency for demanding workloads, and is designed with privacy and security built in.
iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus introduce a new standard for photo and video capture with a new 12MP Main camera featuring a larger sensor and larger pixels, a new front TrueDepth camera, the Ultra Wide camera to capture more of a scene, and Photonic Engine for a giant leap in low-light performance, and advanced connectivity capabilities with 5G and eSIM.
Both models have an updated internal design for better thermal performance, gorgeous Super Retina XDR displays with OLED technology that supports 1200 nits of peak HDR brightness, a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and Dolby Vision.
iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus feature a durable and sleek aerospace-grade aluminum design in five beautiful finishes.

2. iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max
With the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, Apple has finally gotten rid of the notch, in favour of what the company is calling the Dynamic Island, which is a hole-punch display with a pill-shaped cutout. Without impeding content on the screen, the Dynamic Island maintains an active state to allow users easier access to controls with a simple tap-and-hold. When you receive an alert on the device, the dynamic island will expand. Each alert has unique animations for different alerts and apps.
There’s Emergency SOS via satellite and Crash Detection as well.
The iPhone 14 Pro series features Always-On display and is powered by the latest A16 Bionic chipset, which Apple claims is the fastest chip ever in a smartphone, and a 48MP main camera on iPhone featuring a quad-pixel sensor, and Photonic Engine. The A16 bionic features an accelerated five-core graphics processing unit with 50 per cent more memory bandwidth and a new 16-core neural engine capable of performing nearly 17 trillion operations per second, Apple said. This will ensure a seamless run of graphics-intensive games and heavy apps on the iPhone.
The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max also include major updates to the display technology. The bezels are thinner and there is now peak outdoor brightness of 2000 nits alongside HDR brightness of 1600 nits.
Colors available: Deep purple, Silver, Gold, and Space Black.
Pre-orders: begins from Friday September 9, both iPhone Pro and iPhone Pro Max will be available from September 16.
