Eid Al Adha 2024

Next month, residents of the UAE can look forward to an extended holiday as Eid Al Adha 2024 approaches, promising a lengthy break.

Eid Al Adha, the second and most significant of the two Islamic holidays, typically spans from Dhul Hijjah 10 to 12. Based on astrological calculations, it is expected to fall this year on Monday, June 17 to Wednesday, June 19 as a public holiday (subject to the moon sighting). Consequently, individuals with a weekend comprising Saturday and Sunday can anticipate a five-day hiatus, with work resuming on Thursday, June 20.

Eid Al Adha 2024

Eid Al Adha – which means “festival of the sacrifice” – commemorates how the Prophet Ibrahim was asked by God in a dream to sacrifice his son, Ismail, as a test of his faith.

The public holiday is likely to commence on Monday, June 17, with regular work schedules set to resume on Thursday, June 20. Both public and private sector employees will enjoy days off work for the holiday this year.

Planning ahead, considering the potential for a five-day extended weekend, taking Thursday, June 20, and Friday, June 21 off as holidays could extend your break to a total of nine days. However, it’s important to note that confirmation of these dates in the Gregorian calendar depends on the sighting of the moon in a specific phase, as the Islamic Calendar is based on lunar months. We’ll need to await confirmation closer to the time from UAE officials regarding these dates.
